Marsha Mason was originally cast as Addy (Burt Reynold's secretary) but she abandoned the film. Jane Alexander (who was cast as Caroline Howley) moved over to replace her.
After being nominated for THE GOODBYE GIRL, Marsha Mason was offered the role as NORMA RAE but declined due to personal issues/commitments with Neil Simon and his family.
