Dirk Bogarde was first choice to play Gaston in "Gigi", but couldn't get out of his British Rank Organization contract in order to go to Hollywood.

The five-time Oscar nominee declined Vincente Minnelli's invitation to play Aunt Alicia, preferring her retirement from acting and a new career as a special U.S. delegate to the United Nations.

She declined the movie version after exhausting from a long season acting the same piece on Broadway.
