Warner Bros. studios felt Cary Grant was not right for the role of a man who arranged to have his wife murdered.

Olivia De Havilland wanted too much money to star in the thriller directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

Alfred Hitchcock had the debonair star in mind to play the devious "Captain Lesgate," hired by the ex-tennis pro to kill his unfaithful wife. Budget problems dictated the role be cast with another good, but less expensive actor.

She had to refuse Hitchcock offer because she whas already too busy.
