According to Charlotte Chandler's biography of Alfred Hitchcock, De Havilland was considered for this movie when it was to have been directed by Hitchcock.
Hitchcock, under contract to producer David O. Selznick, wanted to be loaned out to MGM the dark tale of a scarred woman trying to overcome her troubled past.
