Miss Crain was forever wounded when Fox refused to loan her to star opposite Laurence Olivier in this adaptation of Theodore Dreiser's "Sister Carrie."

Dunne was considered for this role when it was to be made by RKO in the early 1940's, but she did not see how it could be made well without censoring the story and so declined it. As it was, it was not made for another 10 years.

Rogers was the first choice to play this role in the early 1940's, but when it was made in the early 1950's she was no longer age appropriate.

Warwick was originally cast in this film.
